Smallwares
I have been a fan of Smallwares for a while. This would be out last meal out in Portland before flying off to Spain to look for a winter flat on the Costa Blanca. Terri-Lynn has her own blog that details our Spanish adventure here.
We met some friends and started ordering, Smallwares has dishes meant to be shared. This is what we ate. The prices listed below were in August of 2018.

This has been a signature dish for some time so I think it is a good place to start. Fried kale. Candied Bentons bacon. Fish sauce vinaigrette. Cilantro. $11. I have actually made this dish at home a few times. Simple really, just combine the above ingredients.

Grilled lobster mushrooms. Walnut puree. Sea beans. Mitmita (chili, cardoman, clove) You know that Orange fungus popping up in your yard in the early fall? Yup, I love lobsters, they are actually a parasitic fungus that grow on other mushrooms, usually a Rusula or a Chanterelle. This is a really an Oregon dish with the Sea Beans, Forage! $12.

Tuna tataki. Seared tuna. Green sambal dressing. Tomato. Cucumber. Toasted coconut. If there is raw fish on the menu, I will order it. $11.

Grilled octopus salad. Maple fish sauce dressing. Mixed greens. Radish. Pepitas. Mint cilantro. Red onion fried quinoa. The Octopus here is always outstanding and perfectly cooked, very tender. $12.

Kim chi pancake. Prawns. Octopus. Soy ginger sauce. $10.

Seared sea scallops. Summer succotash. Corn. White beans. Padrons. Green beans. Xo sauce. Country ham. Grapefruit. Tarragon. $22. People ask me where I come up with my ideas for my own cooking. This is a great example, eat out more.
