Pizzeria I Sapori D’Italia Da Carlo
Spain has good pizza. It is also cheap. Back in the states it was standard to pay over $20 USD for a simple cheese pizza. Pizza’s here average around $6 euros. That is a pretty cheap lunch for two persons especially when a house wine is $6-10 euros a bottle. Surprisingly we often see most people ordering their own pizza. I guess it might be the price but one pizza is more then enough for two to share.
We have probably been to over 30 pizzerias here in Torrevieja and almost every one has been excellent. In fact there was only one that really stood out as being not so good. It was at a small bar, it was $5 euros and I am pretty sure came from a grocery store. Besides that we have alwasy been very happy with the local pies. Thin crust, tasty dough cooked properly with a nice char and quality ingredients. The importance of the quality of the ingredients becomes paramount when a dish may only contain three.
I have been blogging about my favorite places here in Torrevieja and today I am going to talk about my favorite pizzeria. We discovered this small mostly take away pizza joint and my only complaint is it is not open for lunch. It is true Italian with Italian ingredients. Tipi 001 flour I believe makes the best pizza dough and it can be hard to find at many restaurants. This is the first thing that got my attention the first time I bit into a slice at Sapori. I was immediately hooked. The rest of the ingredients, limited and simple are all of a very high quality. The sauce, not too much, the cheese, often Buffalo Mozzarella, create a foundation that really needs no additions.

The atmosphere is lively accentuated by the animated chef owner as he makes the pizzas in the open kitchen enjoying having conversations with the patrons as they wait for their pizzas.

The Margherita pictured above is only $6 euros and is delicious. We have also tried two specialty pizzas, the Rebeca which has a carbonara sauce with mozzarella, gorgonzola, emmental and parmesano cheeses. Yes, it is as decadent as it sounds. We have also had the Pizza Tartufo a few times. Truffles, buffalo Mozzarella and mushrooms. This is one of our favorites.

The pizzeria is located near the marina so it has become a regular take out option for a quick delicious meal on the sail boat. I only wish they would open earlier as we usually think of pizza for lunch, not dinner. I have heard good things also about the lasagna and calzones so we will have to take a pizza break soon and give those a try.
This is a very highly recommended pizzeria on the Costa Blanca in Torrevieja.
