Bufa la Gamba at the ‘Hogueras de San Juan’ Alicante 2022
2022 was a very good year for the Carnaval troupe ‘Bufa La Gamba’. They received two awards during the annual Carnaval festival and have been invited to participate in three other events this year including the Hogueras de San Juan celebration in Alicante. I was lucky to be invited to come along and document the entire trip and parade.
We all met in front of the Hotel Fontana on Ramon Gallud in Torrevieja and boarded a chartered bus just for us. There were also three other carnaval troupes from Torrevieja that were also invited.
On the bus bus ride to Alicante the troupe members started helping each other prepare for the event.
We arrived in Alicante and walked into the Ayutamiento de Alicante, or City Hall where the troupes all prepared for the parade.
It was time to line up. But not before having a photo shoot of all the troupes from Torrevieja outside City Hall.
Waiting, Waiting, Waiting. The Torrevieja troupes brought quite the sound system. I think it may have shocked and rocked the parade!
In addition to the parade there are an incredible number of monuments created by local artists around town that will all be burned through out the night, starting at around 10pm and lasting until about 4am the next day! Yes, all these structures were burned in the city surrounded by festival goers as fire trucks stood by!
When Bufa La Gamba and the rest of the Torrevieja troupes made their way down the street the crowd always went wild with clapping and dancing! It was a moving party.
It was a fun trip to our nearest larger city with the Bufa La Gamba carnaval troupe. Below is the full video of the adventure.
