La Zupperia de Johnny

Take a trip back in time to 1950’s America. Poodle skirts, sock hops, the conical bra, sideburns, drive-in movie theaters, the hula hoop, greased back hair and of course, the soda fountain. If you wanted a cold, refreshing drink or ice cream back in the 50s, soda fountains were the new answer. Put a jukebox, dance floor and soda fountain in a room with teenagers, and call it a party!

Owner / Chef Torre Johnny Dale indeed has a passion for this iconic place in time and has recreated this era with an attention to detail complete with checkered floors, bar stools and classic car motifs. They also happened to have, in our opinion, some of the best burgers in Torrevieja which of course is the perfect fit for this restaurant. It is a perfect way to spend an evening with one of their gourmet burgers (now these were not around in 1950’s America) and an adult milk shake. Yes, Boozy shakes because life is short.

But of course, you want to know about the food right? The burgers are creative and fresh and I have had the pleasure of trying out quite a few of them. Here are some favorites.

The Tropical

The Tropical Burger. 190g beef patty, bacon, blue cheese, grilled pineapple and chilli-mango mayonaise. I think this was the first burger I had here. The pineapple and blue cheese go together perfectly and the chili mango mayo is fantastic.

The Puta Madre

De Puta Madre. If I had to choose this would be my favorite. I’ve had it twice. Burger served on rocket salad (arugula) carmelized onions, bacon, mushrooms, feta cheese and a wasabi mayo.

The Chilli

The Chilli. Homemade hot coleslaw, jalapenos and fresh salad. This does have a bit of spice to it.

Casa Blanka

The Casa Blanka. Lamb burger Moraccan style halal meat filled with herbs and exotic spices, served with red onion jam and taziki sauce.

The Nemo

The Nemo. A fish burger patty with tartar sauce and a carrot salad.

Miss Piggy

The Miss Piggy. Crispy bacon and pork minced together in a 200g patty. Saurkraut is optional and served with a crispy pork rind.

La Zupperia de Johnnys also hosts special events, private groups, occasional live music and even drag shows. Our local event company Torrevieja Alternative Events has produced a number of drag shows here in the past.

‘Your’e the One that I want’ from the movie ‘Grease’

La Zupperia de Johnnys is a destination, a date night and a very memorable experience.

About XPLORE FILM and Sip & Stay

The Art of Life

Tony and Terri-Lynn met in 1987 as teenagers. In 1991 they were married.  Tony has been a professional musician his entire life and spent the 90’s touring and releasing albums.  In 2001 the couple left the cities and moved to a small community on the Oregon coast. This is where they fell into television production and film making. In 2004 Makai Ohana Productions was founded and the couple produced advertising and creative content for hundreds of tourism related businesses and government entities in Southern Oregon and Northern California. Realizing the industry was evolving towards the internet they re-branded the business in 2012 to Xplore Film.  This company would now be an international business producing films world wide as well as an NGO in West Africa where the couple provides clean water boreholes, scholarships and even a prosthetic hand project.

In 2018 Tony and Terri-Lynn with their dog Bisque Kitt packed the belongings they could carry on their backs and flew to Spain. They bought a home and planned to spend equal time between the two countries running the business.  Then Covid hit and the world closed.  By 2020 they realized Spain, and specifically Torrevieja was now home.  They bought a sailboat and started to create a life on the Costa Blanca of music, film, events and community.
